Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? Good. Here are the answers.

Everything you need to know before reaching out — from session costs to what therapy actually looks like.

Getting started

  • Trust your gut. If something feels persistent, different from usual, or just won't shift no matter what you try — that's worth exploring. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis. Curiosity and readiness are enough.

  • We talk for 20 minutes. You share a little about what's bringing you in, I share a little about how I work. We both get a feel for whether this might be a good fit. No commitment, no pressure.

  • It depends on the person and what's going on. Psychodynamic therapy is generally not a quick fix — but the changes tend to be real and lasting. Some people work with me for 6–12 months, others for longer. We check in regularly and you're always part of that conversation.

  • I'm out-of-network with insurance providers. I've made this choice deliberately — it means I can focus fully on you, not on insurance rules, session limits, or standardized treatments. Your story is unique, and our work together should reflect that.

  • Yes — many clients use their out-of-network benefits. I'm happy to provide a monthly Superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Services like Reimbursify can make the process easier. Before starting, call your insurance and ask: Does my plan cover out-of-network outpatient mental health? What percentage is reimbursed? Has my deductible been met?

  • Yes. If the standard fee feels like a stretch, please reach out. I believe therapy should be accessible — and if we feel like a good fit, we can find a way to make it work.

  • Under federal law, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate showing expected costs before starting therapy. I provide this to all clients who are not using insurance. For more info visit cms.gov/nosurprises.

Sessions

  • Mostly conversation — but not the kind where you recap your week and get homework. More like a slow, curious unpacking of what's actually going on underneath. No worksheets, no agenda. You lead; I follow closely and pay attention to what's underneath what you're saying.
