Why Psychodynamic Therapy

Why psychodynamic therapy — and why it's different

Other approaches

What are you thinking or doing?

Identify the thought. Change the behavior. Practice the tool. Useful — but it sits on top of the problem, not underneath it.

Psychodynamic therapy

Why are you thinking or doing it?

Goes to the root. Understands what's driving the patterns — so change is real and lasting, not just managed.

If you've tried other approaches and something still feels unresolved — you're not failing at therapy. You might just need to go deeper.

Is this right for you?

Who this work tends to be a good fit for.

You don't need a crisis to come to therapy. Wanting to understand yourself more deeply is enough.

Curious about themselves and ready to go beyond symptom management

People who've tried other approaches and felt something was still missing

Stuck in relationship patterns they can see but can't seem to change

Carrying anxiety or low mood that's been there so long it feels like personality

Navigating a major transition — career, relationships, identity, loss

Feeling emotionally disconnected — from themselves or their own life

What sessions actually look like

Not your typical therapy session.

Mostly conversation — but not the kind where you recap your week and get homework. More like a slow, curious unpacking of what's actually going on underneath.

You bring what's present — what happened this week, a dream, a feeling you can't shake. I listen closely, not just to what you're saying but to what's underneath it. We notice patterns. We make connections.

The relationship between us is actually part of the work. How trust develops, where things feel easy or uncomfortable — that tells us a lot about how you connect with people outside this room.

Sessions are 50 minutes, usually once a week. In-person on Fridays in Newport Beach, or online across California.

A note on creativity in therapy

Decorative cake with pink and white icing and gold accents on a gold stand in front of bookshelves.

I'm not a strictly "just talk" therapist.

Depending on what feels useful, we might also work with creative tools that help access things words alone sometimes can't reach.

Dream work

Exploring what dreams reveal about your inner world

Imagery work

Guided imagery to access feelings beneath the surface

Inner child work

Connecting with and healing earlier parts of yourself

None of this is required or forced. We follow what opens things up for you.
